Since it is not my area of research, I do not know much about land investments. But I do know that opinions are divided.
Some, like http://farmlandgrab.org, tend to see investments as being harmful per se. Others, like the World Bank report on land investments (http://web.worldbank.org/WBSITE/EXTERNAL/NEWS/0,,contentMDK:22694767~pagePK:64257043~piPK:437376~theSitePK:4607,00.html) acknowledges that there can be benefits, but that it requires more transparent transactions and monitoring to make sure that investors live up to their obligations.
Personally, I believe you also have to be clear about who you are talking about when you ask whether 'Tanzania' benefits from investors; if you want to make sure that poor people at the local level benefit, you have to be very specific about what they should get out of it and find ways to control that they receive it. Redistribution of wealth and resources rarely happens automatically.

I guess you are from the Free State in South Africa? I do not know much about land affairs in South Africa. You could contact The Land Access Movement of South Africa. Maybe they can help or tell you who can. Phone +27 11 833 1060 and Email connie_lamosa@yahoo.com.
